BLOWN meets female entrepreneur and business owner Paris Cesvette. An empowering personal trainer, fitness nutrition specialist and corrective exercise specialist. As part of our BLOWN Introduces series, Paris Cesvette discusses how she launched OPOM, moving from music to wellbeing and the launch of The Smooth Zone.

About Paris Cesvette

Born & raised in Hertfordshire, Paris Cesvette is also a multi-instrumentalist, Music Producer, DJ, Presenter and label owner. At the young age of 5, Paris was studying to read and write music. This led Paris to becoming proficient on the Saxophone, Keys and Guitar. Before Paris even finished her high school, she started to work as a session musician and begin learning the ropes as a DJ on pirate radio.

In recent years, Paris Cesvette has focused her energy on wellness.  We speak at length about her journey to becoming a personal trainer and fitness nutrition specialist amongst other things.

How did you start Jensen & Jensen ?

We are two young twin brothers, who have launched many businesses in the past. Some have been successful and many are not here today. This however has not stopped us. We noticed a gap in the market for a youth-driven consultancy and we sought to create something special. Through adversity, we launched Jensen & Jensen with the goal to be a modern-day Satchi & Satchi. That is why we decided to put our name above the door.

What services do you offer as Jensen & Jensen ?

We are a creative solutions agency, our services focus on branding, design and development and digital marketing. My brother and I are also consultants working with legacy brands to provide a fresh off the wall perspective.

What has been your biggest challenge running Jensen & Jensen ?

Working with family, being young founders, an industry that is heavily run by middle-age white men. From the very start, we had to cut above to be heard. Disruptive innovation.

What do you enjoy most about running your own business ?

After going to boarding school, I quickly learnt that I had a problem with authority. The best thing I enjoy about running a business is autonomy and the aspect of waking up each morning to a new challenge. No two days are the same. I love being able to make a difference.

Meet BLOWN business Make My Mortgage

How did you start Make My Mortgage ?

After a 16 year career in the mortgage industry working for some of the top firms, I decided that I had enough of the whole “Onto the next one, targets, targets, targets” mentality. I had learnt alot, I knew what I was doing and was the top broker at the leading digital brokers. I had the skill, I had the experience but I just wasn’t sure if I had the courage to go for it.

It got to a point where I was starting to get burnt out in my city job to the point at which I was signed off with stress and anxiety then prescribed over 4 types of medication. After a month off work, on a Sunday evening, the evening before I had to return to work – the stress was too much. I sent the email resigning and at that point, I decided I was going to make this work.

Not only that but I was going to shift the targets and numbers board mentality. I was going to do it my way and you know what, people have been receptive to it. I taught myself how to set up a company, how to sort the emails, the website, the marketing, the facebook pages…..what a great learning experience!

What services do you offer as Make My Mortgage ?

In a nutshell, we are a mortgage and insurance brokerage. What does that mean? Well….we speak to people that have a dream of owning a property one day but have no idea how much they can borrow, what their property budget is Or where to even start.

Finding a Mortgage Advisor who has your best interests at heart is important

We also help people remortgage their homes and also buy new property either to live in or to rent out. Without sounding too salesy, we really try to take time to explain everything and answer any questions that our clients have (this was not something I was able to do in the fast pace city target focused roles of the past).

Not only do we help with mortgages, we could also help to set people up with insurance to make sure that their property is protected and also if the worst happens, they don’t have anything to worry about. All of our staff have been either in the property industry or in the mortgage industry so we know how it works.

We have over 35 years combined experience in this game – so we know a thing or two about it. We charge low fees in comparison to other brokers, and the reason for this is that the focus is not so much on making a quick buck, but providing a easy, clear and efficient service that makes people want to refer us to friends, family, colleagues etc

What has been your biggest challenge running Make My Mortgage ?

I think my biggest challenge was actually admitting to myself that I couldn’t do everything. Last year in February just before the pandemic I took on my first member of staff who is my part time assistant (Amy). In September, I took my first full-time member of staff (Gary) who I have worked with in two different companies for 9 years.

The reason I picked both of these people is that I have worked with them before, they both have great experience in the property and the mortgage industry. Because I’ve worked with them before I know that they could slot straight in and help give immediate relief and offer value from day one.

It was a great choice because soon as I took on both of these people productivity went through the roof and it allowed me to focus more on the front end of the business, doing what I do best which is engaging with clients and promoting the business. Starting a company has been a learning curve, there have been plenty of mistakes that I have made but each of them was a lesson and it’s helped me to become a better business owner, boss and mortgage broker.

What do you enjoy most about running your own business ?

If I’m completely honest about this I like having complete control over that the direction of the company. In previous roles, management have had less experience than me and have been telling me to do things in a certain way because it’s company policy when I can actually see it more efficient way to do things.

I’m now able to implement things in the way that I think is my sufficient, and I think this is working because we now are approaching our third year of business.

Referrals are coming in thick and fast, and I think this is because of the approach that we have taken to make sure that our clients are looked after and they feel comfortable discussing personal financial details with us.
